Standards Australia Committee Representatives Sought
12th Jul 17
Representatives of dental product manufacturers and suppliers are sought to participate on Standards Australia technical committees developing product design, performance and test requirements for: Diagnostic ionizing imaging equipment, surgical gloves and sterilising equipment.
Key Issues For The Dental Industry —
The Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is the primary reference point for Standards Australia in seeking advice and guidance from dental product manufacturers and suppliers on matters associated with development of product technical standards. To facilitate this ADIA nominates employees of member businesses to serve on Standards Australia technical committees.
As an ADIA nominee on a Standards Australia committee you have the opportunity to use your expertise to help develop technical specifications that ensure that products are designed and perform consistently. Importantly, the use of standards by manufacturers facilitates market entry thus making it easier to import and export dental products.
Nominations are currently sought from employees of member businesses to serve on the following committees:
HE-008: Diagnostic Ionizing Imaging Equipment —
This committee develops Australian Standards (AS3200.2) for dento-maxillofacial x-ray equipment (including computed tomography) that sets out safety requirements associated with the design and use.
HE-013: Surgical Apparel —
This committee develops Australian Standards (AS4381, AS/NZS4011.1, AS/NZS4011.2 and AS/NZS4179) that set out design, performance and test requirements for single-use face masks, single-use examination gloves and single-use surgical gloves that are used in healthcare.
ME-003: Sterilizing Equipment —
This committee reviews the acceptability for Australia of International Standard addressing the design, performance and maintenance requirements for machines in health care facilities that wash, disinfect or sterilize equipment
In terms of commitment all that is required is that you have relevant professional expertise in the work of the committee, the willingness to liaise with your colleagues in the dental industry concerning the development of draft standards and the ability to commit to attending meetings that are held three to four times per year. For effective participation in the work of the committee, it is desirable that the committee's members are able to attend the meetings in person; however, as this is not always possible, audio facilities can be made available.
If you would like to nominate for this committee, simply review the material below and complete the nomination form available from the link below and return it to the ADIA National Office by Friday, 11 August 2017:

ADIA's efforts to ensure that Australia's dental industry has the ability to positively influence the shape of the technical and regulatory standards for dental products is amongst some of our most important work. It would not be possible without the support of people just like you who volunteer for committee service, so thanks for considering the matter.
Member Engagement —
ADIA provides leadership, strategy, advocacy and support. Our members set our agenda, fund our activities and directly benefit from the results. Employees of ADIA member businesses are appointed to serve on Standards Australia and seek advice and guidance from the relevant ADIA National Committees and ADIA Reference Groups.
