2014 Budget — The dental industry's overview

To provide manufacturers and suppliers of quality dental products with an understanding of the commercial environment in which they do business, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is pleased to provide this overview of key budget measures.

The following information is drawn from the Australian Government budget papers and discussions that ADIA has had with Ministers and senior departmental staff on budget day. A more detailed assessment was provided at the aforementioned ADIA State Branch Briefings held in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.

2014 Budget — Commission of audit report

The Commission of Audit was tasked to review the scope and efficiency of the Australian Government, to review the state of its finances and to advise on steps to be taken in ensuring Australia’s long-term fiscal strategy is responsible and sustainable. Its recommendations provided the context in which the 2014 Australian Government budget was drafted. [Read More]

2014 Budget — Regulatory harmonisation

There are a number of measures to support businesses assisting mature-age and young people back to work and are programmes that allow businesses to create jobs in the dental industry. [Read More]

2014 Budget — Medical research future fund

The budget will establish the Medical Research Future Fund, a $20 billion initiative that will help realise the huge opportunities for research to boost illness prevention and promote early intervention, reducing health costs while improving health outcomes and delivering better quality of life. 2014 Budget — Dental care spending

This budget changes funding for the national partnership agreement on adult dental services, cuts the flexible grants program and amends reimbursement for veterans dental services. Savings from this measure will be invested by the Australian Government in the Medical Research Future Fund. [Read More]

2014 Budget — Healthcare spending

The Government will provide funding in 2014-15 to continue the harmonisation and alignment of schemes for the regulation of therapeutic products between Australia and New Zealand. The expenditure for this measure is not for publication due to ongoing negotiations with the New Zealand Government. [Read More]

These relationships were used to progress key policy issues of concern prior to the 2014 Australian Government budget.
